Future regulations regarding the Import of Vaccinated Koi into the EU

Filed under: Biosecurity, Biosecurity vs Vaccine — Danny Benjamin @ 6:47 pm

Recent developments (including outbreaks of KHV from (so called) vaccinated Koi have caused quite a stir in the EU. The Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) has held a meeting (5-6 June 2007) following these outbreaks. At this time there is a feeling that they may recommend the banning of imports of vaccinated fish.
THIS is the information presented at that meeting.

  1. There were a lot of rumors about the vaccinated carps and KOI from Israel. Unfortunately, I was one of the ignorance people that spread my fears and my “scientific” data on the Israeli fish and the vaccine against KHV (I think its name is KV3).
My attitude was totally changed after I traveled to Israel and I met the breeders and the scientists (Well known in the world) of the KHV Vaccine.
There is tremendous industry by very talent people that were pioneers of using with very high success the vaccine against KHV.
Many safety tests were done to ensure that the vaccine is safe for the fish and will not reverse to violent. Please follow me and visit Israel instead of spreading unproved rumors all over!!
